I am a D11 D12 Paraplegic since 2003 due to a Spinal cord Injury in a car accident. As it’s a partial injury have some strength/ power below the level of injury. Have been using the chair since last 8- 10 years. As earlier used to use callipers more to move about as my house was on the third floor without lift and was not wheelchair friendly. I have been using Wheelchairs and callipers from Ottobock for moving about. Earlier I was using the taiwan chairs which were not made to measure and were more like Hospital Chairs. I wanted something which was made to my size and made as light as possible. I was looking at Ottobock as they were the only option in Mumbai. But their product line was limited and they didn’t have what I required.

Mobility solutions in India are lagging way behind compared to other countries. And it was nearly impossible to find a dealer/manufacturer who can provide all requirements which I had.I was researching on the best possible rigid chairs and was checking Ti and quickie sites online where I found the link to SMOI website which was the nearest to me. It was a breeze working with SMOI, right from assessment to delivery, all things were handled to my satisfaction. Shriya, Padmaja and Naveen have been really patient in explaining the pros and cons of all the options available, and believe me there are many. They have helped me bring my dream chair to reality.

I was apprehensive of ordering through SMOI as I felt assessment and conveying what I wanted would be difficult as they were located in Bangalore and I was in Mumbai. But they have done the assessment via skype and responded to all my queries via email or phone. The quality of service and products offered are really excellent. I would definitely recommend SMOI to the SCI peers.SMOI should have wheelchair camps at different metros to create awareness among the SCI fraternity, as most lack awareness about the products available.Measurements can be done compared to the old chair the user is using and make it as compact as possible and as active as possible depending on the users mobility and strength.
